Robert McGavin & Caroline Roe Gee

Robert McGavin & Caroline Roe Gee
(Parents of Emma Isabella McGavin, Mother of Caroline Oleta Jensen, Mother of Alan J White)

Robert McGavin – was born in 1843 in Scotland – the seventh of nine children. His mother, Janet, heard the gospel of Jesus Christ and was baptized along with two of her daughters in 1849. Another daughter, Isabella was baptized in 1851 at the age of twelve. Eventually, all of the family members joined the church, except for the father, Robert, who felt it was a disgrace to even listen to a Mormon, as did many people in Glasgow at the time.

Caroline’s mother passed away when she was only 3.  She was sent to live with another family, so she didn’t get to grow up with most of her own brothers and sisters. She always had to work hard and had very little schooling. When she was only THIRTEEN years old she became the second wife to Robert McGavin, who was the husband of her sister Rozelia.

She was always serving others and would often care for the sick in her neighborhood. There was never a night too dark or stormy for her to go out if someone was in need. She was on hand to help usher the little strangers into the world or to aid and comfort when some of her friends were called to part with loved ones.
