Robert White & Amy Evans

Robert White & Amy Evans were Pioneers
(Parents of Franklin D White, Father of Simeon Woodrow White, Father of Alan J White)

Robert White was 12 years old when his family crossed the plains in 1849. He drove oxen in the morning and cattle in the afternoon. One stream of water encountered on the trip required very careful fording.  Robert was driving the wagon and his father was following behind.  The oxen on the wagon Robert was driving started to go out into the deep part of the stream.  His father yelled to jump on the back of the lead ox and turn them back into the course.  With the aid of his Heavenly Father, Robert was able to jump safely on the back of the ox and in a miraculous way, turn the oxen in the right direction, in so doing, saved the lives of all concerned.

Amy Evans was born in South Wales. Her mother died when she as a small girl and her father then remarried. The family had joined the Mormon Church and the father decided to send his three children of his first marriage to America with his brother, Johnny Evans. Johnny had been to Salt Lake, and had returned to Wales as a missionary. He took the children back to Utah with him at the end of his mission. Amy arrived in America when she was only eight years old. Her father had intended to come later, but he never came and she never saw him again.
